FOSC was formed in 1997 with 30 volunteers. Our aim is to maintain and improve the Common for the benefit of wildlife and people. Once a month, on the third Saturday, we undertake conservation activities as recommended in our Management Plan. This plan was agreed with environmentalists, wildlife experts and the Common’s owner, the South Bedfordshire District Council. These activities include clearing footpaths and scrub areas, restoring hedgerows, tree care, putting up nesting boxes for bats, birds, owls and dormice, and maintaining the newly planted boundary hedge on the southern side of East Common. We are an informal and friendly group, hosting social events and creating opportunities to learn about wildlife in the area through affiliation with Beds County Council Parish Paths Partnership, South Beds District Council and the Greensand Trust. We also have access to training and other conservation activities. These range from badger–watching, red kite observation, dormouse monitoring, First Aid training and courses on learning how to use a brush cutter safely! We warmly welcome new members of all ages and support of all kinds. Join us anytime to help keep the Common beautiful for everyone. To learn more about FOSC and how to join please contact us
