Annual P3 Work Party – our ‘Big Bash’
What a difference a day makes!

FOSC Chairman
Pam Rumfitt
West Common was the scene of huge endeavour on Saturday 24th January, as over 50 volunteers from Studham and beyond joined us for a day’s conservation work. Encouraged by a hearty breakfast and well earned lunch and tea, the volunteers undertook a range of tasks. These included regeneration of the gorse, hedgerow planting, reclaiming overgrown glade areas and cutting back undergrowth encroaching on to the roadside verge.
The Friends were joined by volunteers from the Greensand Trust, the MayDay Trust and, for the first time, 12 members of Studham Scouts, who planted over 100 hedgerow saplings.
Even the South Beds District Council (the landowners) Open Space and Recreations Officer, Paul Burgess, left his desk job and turned up for practical work!
Don Grozier, our Operations Manager, who organised the day, commented: " With enthusiasm, team spirit and luck with the weather, it's amazing what a difference you can make"
Note: This annual event is promoted by Steve Halton, P3 Officer of Bedfordshire County Council, who helps with volunteer recruitment and practical support on the day. Our regular work parties take place on the third Saturday morning of each month. Why not come and join us at our next one?
